Westlake Strong in LFT Loss (5/17 Recaps)

Friday was not a good day for the farm system as all four teams that played earned losses, with Lakeland losing twice in a doubleheader. Aaron Westlake was strong in Lakeland's second game but the Flying Tigers lost both against Daytona. Toledo lost in extra innings while West Michigan and Erie both struggled at the plate in their losses.

Toledo carried a 3-3 tie into the tenth inning in Friday's game against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre but the RailRiders scored a run in the top of the tenth, topping the Mud Hens 4-3. Starting pitcher Luke Putkonen took the no decision after giving up one earned run on one hit over four innings. Jess Todd's record dropped to 1-3 on the season with the loss after the reliever gave up one unearned run on one hit in two innings. Jordan Lennerton had a solid night offensively for Toledo, going 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the loss.

Erie's bats were relatively stagnant in Friday's series opener against Akron as the SeaWolves could only put one in the run column, falling to Aeros 4-1. Victor Larez earned his first loss of the season in the start, giving up two earned runs on six hits in 6 ? innings of work. Tyler Collins was the lone Erie hitter to drive in a run on the night, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Lakeland struggled to generate offense in the first game of Friday's doubleheader between the Flying Tigers and Daytona as Lakeland fell to the Cubs 5-1. Starting pitcher Jeff Ferrell's record fell to 0-3 with the loss after giving up three earned runs on seven hits over five innings. Jeff McVaney drove in the only run for Lakeland in the first game, going 1-for-3 with a solo home run.

Lakeland and Daytona went into extra innings in the second game of Friday's doubleheader before the Bears scored three runs in the top half of the twelfth inning as the Flying Tigers 7-4. Nick Avila earned a no decision in his start, giving up two earned runs on three hits in four innings of work. Matt Davenport earned his first loss of the season in relief after giving up three earned runs over two innings. Aaron Westlake had a big second game for the Flying Tigers offensively, going 1-for-4 with a double and three runs driven in in the loss.

West Michigan struggled at the plate in its series opener against Bowling Green, getting shutout on the way to a 4-0 loss on Friday. Starting pitcher Charlie Gillies earned his second loss of the season after giving up three earned runs on three hits over 5 ? innings. No West Michigan hitter tallied an extra base hit and only Mario Martinez and Jared Reaves had multiple hits in Friday's loss.
