Durham Homers Twice in WM Win (5/20 Recaps)

West Michigan came to the ballpark wielding hot bats on Monday against Bowling Green, but needed extra innings and a big outing from Lance Durham to top the Hot Rods. Toledo also went in to extra innings against Syracuse but fell on the losing end. Erie had a strong night offensively but was outhit by Harrisburg while the VSL Tigers fell to the Rays. Lakeland did not play on Monday.

Toledo and Syracuse carried a 3-3 tie into the tenth inning before the Chiefs scored the go-ahead run in the top of the tenth inning as the Mud Hens fell 4-3 on Monday. Starting pitcher Shawn Hill earned a no decision after giving up three earned runs on six hits in six innings of work. Bruce Rondon earned his first loss of the season in relief after giving up his first earned run of the season with Toledo, the winning run in the top of the tenth. Jordan Lennerton had another solid game at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and a run driven in in the loss.

Pitching struggled on both sides in Monday's series opener between Erie and Harrisburg but a four-run eighth inning by the Senators made the difference as the SeaWolves fell 10-7. Warwick Saupold earned a no decision in the start, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits in 5 ? innings. Blaine Hardy earned his second loss of the season in relief after allowing two earned runs over two innings. Wade Gaynor and James McCann each had strong games offensively for Erie as both hitters notched a home run and two runs driven in in the loss. Marcus Lemon also drove in two runs for Erie.

Despite tallying 16 against Bowling Green on Monday, West Michigan needed extra innings to top the Hot Rods, scoring a walk off run in the eleventh inning to win 7-6. Starting pitcher Endrys Briceno earned a no decision after giving up one earned run on five hits in six innings on the mound. Josh Turley earned his fifth win of the season in relief after shutting out Bowling Green in one inning. Lance Durham was an offensive force for the ‘Caps, pounding two home runs and driving in five runs on a 3-for-6 night at the plate. Jeff Holm also drove in a run in the win.

After giving up three runs in the first inning of Monday's game against the Rays, the Tigers couldn't muster up enough offense to make a comeback, falling 5-4. Starting pitcher Angel Vasquez earned his first loss of the season, giving up five earned runs on 10 hits in 4 ? innings. Arvicent Perez hit his first home run of the season in the loss, a solo shot on a 1-for-4 night.
