Moya Leads LFT to Win (5/28 Recaps)

Lakeland and Dunedin were tied late in Tuesday's game but the Flying Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on the way to a much-needed win. The VSL Tigers were also winners on Tuesday while West Michigan had to battle the rain and strong Great Lakes pitching in a loss. Toledo and Erie also fell.

One Mud Hen had a big night against Charlotte but the rest of the team struggled to get anything done on Tuesday as Toledo fell to the Knights 12-3. Starting pitcher Ramon Garcia fell to 1-5 on the season after allowing six earned runs on eight hits in 4 ? innings. Jordan Lennerton was the lone player to have a big game for the Mud Hens, knocking two home runs and driving in three runs on a 3-for-4 night at the plate.

Runs came at a premium for Erie on Tuesday in its series opener against Trenton as the SeaWolves were only able to put up one run, falling to the Thunder 4-1. Kyle Lobstein pitched a complete game in earning the loss, allowing three earned runs on six hits in eight innings. The lone run scored for Erie was on a throwing error that scored Eugenio Suarez. No SeaWolves hitter had an extra base hit in the game and only three Erie hitters tallied a hit.

High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers

Lakeland broke a 2-2 tie against Dunedin on Tuesday with two runs in the eighth inning as the Flying Tigers topped the Blue Jays 4-2. Starting pitcher Wilsen Palacios earned a no decision after giving up two earned runs on four hits over five innings. Slade Smith earned his first win of the season in relief while Melvin Mercedes tallied his sixth save of the season in the win. Steven Moya had a big night offensively for Lakeland, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs driven in for the Flying Tigers.

24-25, 4th in Eastern Division

Due to a rain delay West Michigan and Great Lakes had to rely on relief pitching on Tuesday and the Loons held the advantage as the Whitecaps could only put up one run, falling 6-1. Logan Elhers fell to 0-2 on the season pitching in relief, giving up two earned runs on one hit over three innings. The Whitecaps scored their only run on a throwing error and Danry Vasquez was the only hitter to record multiple hits, going 2-for-3 in the loss.

The VSL Tigers relied on a late surge of runs against the Mariners on Tuesday, scoring all of their runs in the final three innings to win 8-4. Starting pitcher Jose Fuentes earned the no decision in the start, allowing two earned runs on six hits in five innings of work. Jose Rodriguez earned his first win of the season in relief. Jose Ovalles had a big night at the plate in the win, going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI on the night.
