Guez Homers Twice in Hens Win (6/10 Recaps)

Toledo had one of its biggest nights of the season at the plate on Monday, jumping out to a 12-0 lead against Rochester on the way to a win. West Michigan also won behind a strong pitching performance while the VSL and DSL Tigers both earned wins. Erie had the day off while Lakeland's game was postponed due to rain.

Toledo jumped out to a 12-0 lead in Monday's game against Rochester and never looked back as the Mud Hens topped the Red Wings 12-4. Starting pitcher Derek Hankins earned a no decision in the start, shutting out Rochester on two hits over 2 ? innings of work. Matt Hoffman improved to 4-1 after earning the win in relief. Ben Guez had a big night at the plate for the Mud Hens, going 4-for-4 with two home runs and three runs driven in in the win.

Pitching was the big story for West Michigan in Monday's game against Lansing as the Whitecaps shut out the Lugnuts 1-0. Jordan John was electric in improving his record to 5-3, shutting out Lansing on two hits over eight innings of work. Jose Valdez earned his thirteenth save of the season in the win. Jake Stewart drove in the lone run for the ‘Caps, going 0-for-3 with an RBI.

West Michigan had its worst game of the season in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against Lansing, scrounging up just one hit and falling to the Lugnuts 2-0. Starting pitcher Logan Elhers fell to 0-3 on the season despite having a decent start, giving up one earned run on five hits over four innings. Devon Travis was the lone ‘Caps hitter to tally a hit, going 1-for-3 with a single.

The VSL Tigers fell behind 4-0 before scoring five unanswered runs on Monday, topping the Cubs 5-4. Anthony Castro earned a no decision in the start, allowing two earned runs on six hits over three innings of work. Johan Belisario improved his record to 3-1 with a win in relief. Davi Alvarado led the Tigers offensively, hitting a double and driving in two runs in the win.

The DSL Tigers brought the bats in Monday's game in a big way, topping the Rojos 12-3. Gregoris Hidalgo had a big night at the plate for the Tigers, going 3-for-5 with a run driven in and three runs scored in the win.
