AAA Toledo Mud Hens
52-68, 4th in West Division
Toledo hit the ball early and often in Wednesday's game against the Columbus as the Mud Hens put up 17 hits and topped the Clippers 9-6. Starting pitcher Shawn Hill improved to 4-12 with the win after allowing five earned runs on eight hits over 5 ? innings. Jose Ortega earned his third save of the season in the win. Jordan Lennerton hit his fifteenth home run of the season and drove in three runs in the win.
AA Erie Seawolves
61-53, 1st in Western Division
Erie fought off a late comeback in Wednesday's game against Trenton by scoring four runs in the final two innings as the SeaWolves topped the Thunder 9-7. Victor Larez earned a no decision in the start, allowing five earned runs on seven hits over 3 ? innings. David Kopp evened his record to 3-3 after earning the win in relief and Melvin Mercedes earned his seventh save of the season. Daniel Fields homered and drove in two runs in the win while Wade Gaynor and Tyler Collins each added a pair.
High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
50-56, 5th in North Division
Lakeland had its biggest night of the season at the plate in Wednesday's series opener against Dunedin as the Flying Tigers put up 15 hits and topped the Blue Jays 19-6. Starting pitcher Wilsen Palacios improved to 6-7 with the win after allowing three earned runs on six hits over six innings. Devon Travis had a huge night at the plate, homering twice and driving in seven runs in the win. Aaron Westlake also hit two home runs and drove in five and Steven Moya added three runs.
Low-A West Michigan Whitecaps
55-58, 5th in Eastern Division
West Michigan scored two runs in the ninth inning of Wednesday's series opener against Lansing but it wasn't nearly enough as the Whitecaps fell to the Lugnuts 9-3. Starting pitcher Montreal Robinson fell to 2-6 with the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits over five innings. Dean Green and Jeff Holm each drove in runs in the loss.
A Short-Season Connecticut
21-28, 4th in Stedler Division
Connecticut gave up a late one-run lead in Wednesday's game against Brooklyn, giving up two runs in the eighth inning as the Tigers fell to the Cyclones 4-3. Chase Edwards earned a no decision in the start, allowing one earned run on two hits over four innings. Logan Elhers earned his first loss of the season in relief. Dominic Ficociello hit two doubles and drove in two runs in the loss.
R DSL Tigers
38-18, 1st in Dominican Summer League San Pedro de Macoris
The DSL Tigers broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning of Wednesday's game against the Nationals and let pitching do the rest as the Tigers topped the Nationals 3-1. Malvin Martinez improved to 3-0 with the win after allowing one earned run on three hits over five innings. Rafael Manzanillo earned his first save of the season in the win. Domingo Leyba had a solo home run on a 3-for-4 night.
R GCL Tigers
24-16, 1st in Gulf Coast League
The GCL Tigers were locked in a low-scoring battle in Wednesday's game against the Yankees but the Tigers couldn't muster up any offense, falling to the Yankees 1-0. Octavio Dotel earned a no decision in his rehab start, shutting out the Yankees and leaving the team hitless over one inning. Micah Kellogg fell to 1-1 after earning the loss in relief. Javier Betancourt was the lone hitter to record multiple hits, posting a 2-for-3 night.
