Toledo relied on strong starting pitching and timely hitting in Tuesday's game against Gwinnett as the Mud Hens pitched a shutout, topping the Braves 5-0. Starting pitcher Kyle Lobstein improved to 4-3 with the win, allowing just five hits while striking out six over 6 ? innings. Danny Dorn hit his twenty-fifth home run of the season and drove in two runs in the win.
AA Erie Seawolves
68-60, 2nd in Western Division
A run scored in the first inning proved to be the difference for Erie in Tuesday's game against Akron as the SeaWolves just scraped out a win, topping the Aeros 6-5. Matt Crouse earned a no decision in the start, allowing five earned runs on eight hits over 5 ? innings. Will Clinard improved to 2-3 after earning the win in relief and Justin Souza earned his seventeenth save of the season. Brandon Douglas and James McCann each had a solo home run in the win.
High-A Lakeland Flying Tigers
56-63, 2nd in North Division
Lakeland jumped out to an early four-run lead in Tuesday's game against Brevard County but the Flying Tigers had to stave off a late rally, topping the Manatees 4-3. Starting pitcher Patrick Cooper improved to 2-1 with the win, shutting out Brevard County on five hits over five innings. Jose Valdez earned his thirteenth save of the season. Francisco Martinez and Jeff McVaney each drove in a pair of runs in the win.
Low-A West Michigan Whitecaps
60-65, 6th in Eastern Division
West Michigan held a six-run lead in Tuesday's game against Dayton and held off a late comeback as the Whitecaps topped the Dragons 6-3. Starting pitcher Jake Thompson improved to 3-3 with the win, allowing one unearned run on two hits over six innings. Calvin Drummond earned his first save of the season in the win. Jared Reaves, Dean Green and Jason King each drove in a pair of runs for West Michigan.
A Short-Season Connecticut
28-32, 4th in Stedler Division
Connecticut held on to an early lead in Saturday's game against Aberdeen as the Tigers topped the IronBirds 5-3. Buck Farmer earned a no decision in the start after shutting out Aberdeen on one hit over three innings. Logan Elhers improved to 3-1 after earning the win in relief and Zac Reininger earned his eighth save of the season. Javier Azcona drove in two runs on a 1-for-4 night.
R DSL Tigers
46-20, 1st in Dominican Summer League San Pedro de Macoris
The DSL Tigers jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings of Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays and did not relent as the Tigers topped the Blue Jays 5-2. Starting pitcher Carlos Lara improved to 3-2 with the win after allowing one earned run on four hits over five innings. Jesus Guzman earned his eighth save of the season in the win. Five players each drove in one run for the Tigers in the win.
R GCL Tigers
29-21, 2nd in Gulf Coast League
The GCL Tigers scored six runs in the sixth inning of Wednesday's game against the Braves to take a commanding lead as the Tigers topped the Braves 9-4. Starting pitcher Confesor Lara improved to 2-2 with the win after allowing after allowing one earned run on 9 hits over six innings. Tim Remes hit two home runs and drove in three for the Tigers on a 3-for-4 night at the plate.
