Erie Seawolves Player of the Year
OF Daniel Fields

|Erie||457||.284||.356||.435||130 / 45||24 / 7|
Fields has been a mainstay on the Tigers' prospect radar since he was given a seven-figure bonus as a sixth round pick in 2009. A local Detroit product, Fields spent two and a half seasons in High-A Lakeland before finally putting things together at Double-A in 2013. In 118 games for Erie, Fields posted a cumulative line of .284/.356/.435 while regaining his promising defensive form in center field. Fields set career marks in hits (130), doubles (27), home runs (10), RBI (58) and steals (24). Still just 22-years old, Fields' impressive campaign through the Eastern League has put him in a position to potentially see the big leagues in 2014 and cemented his status as a potential second division outfielder.
Erie SeaWolves Pitcher of the Year
RHP Drew VerHagen
|Team||W-L||G / GS||IP||ERA||K / BB||AVG|
|Erie||2-5||12 / 12||60.0||3.00||40 / 17||.240|
The Tigers fourth round pick in 2012, VerHagen joined the organization after a successful career at Vanderbilt. He pitched well across 31 innings in 2012 and then dominated for stretches of the 2013 season. With High-A Lakeland early in the year, VerHagen posted a 2.81 ERA across 67-1/3 innings, allowing just 49 hits and 27 walks while striking out 35 batters. The 6-foot-6, 230 pound VerHagen actually improved some of his peripherals upon his promotion to Double-A, bumping his strikeout rate to six per nine innings and still allowing less than a hit per inning across 60 frames. He finished the season at Erie with a 3.00 ERA in 12 starts. All told, VerHagen's successful first full season, posting a cumulative 2.90 ERA in 23 starts (24 appearances), has put him in the mix as a potential call-up should a starter be needed in 2014.
