TigsTown PR 7/30: Ziomek Strikes Out 13

SeaWolves Steven Moya and Devon Travis remained hot at the plate, but Kevin Ziomek continues his impressive pitching for the Whitecaps, including a 13-strikeout start this past week.

1. OF Steven Moya - AA Erie
401 AB | .269 AVG | .846 OPS | 27 2B | 3 3B | 26 HR | 15 SB
Steven Moya heated up a bit, going 10-for-26 this past week. Moya swatted two home runs and swiped three more stolen bases. The 22-year-old outfielder leads the Eastern League in homers, runs-batted-in and slugging percentage and is still second in doubles. Moya's .846 OPS is also ninth best in the Eastern League this season. Have I mentioned that he's a large human?


2. 2B Devon Travis - AA Erie
280 AB | .293 AVG | .794 OPS | 12 2B | 5 3B | 7 HR | 11 SB
Devon Travis went 8-for-29 with a triple, a two-run homer and two walks this past week. The 23-year-old is batting .315 with an .821 OPS over 111 at-bats this month.


3. LHP Kevin Ziomek - A West Michigan
95 1/3 IP | 2.17 ERA | 1.21 WHIP | 8-6 | 112 K | 44 BB |
Kevin Ziomek continues to torment MWL batters. The southpaw racked up a career high 13 strikeouts over six scoreless frames on Monday. Ziomek has 26 strikeouts over his last 14 innings of work and 112 now over 95 1/3 innings this season. Unfortunately home plate continues to dance around a bit, as Ziomek has also allowed 44 walks (4.2 BB/9) this season.


4. RHP Buck Farmer - AA Erie
103 2/3 | 2.60 ERA | 1.11 WHIP | 10-5 | 116 K | 24 BB |
Buck Farmer was rewarded with a promotion to Double-A Erie after yet another impressive performance for the Class-A Whitecaps this past week. The 23-year-old threw five scoreless frames, striking out three in route to his tenth win of the season. Farmer finished the month of July with a microscopic 0.41 ERA and 0.73 WHIP with 16 strikeouts and just one walk--a span of four starts/22 innings.


5. RHP Angel Nesbitt - AA Erie
54 IP | 1.17 ERA | 1.00 WHIP | 3-0 | 55 K | 17 BB | 18 SV
Angel Nesbitt notched a save over three scoreless innings this past week. The 23-year-old allowed two hits, two walks and struck out three over the three appearances. Rinse and repeat...Nesbitt continues to shove on the mound.


6. C James McCann - AAA Toledo
304 AB | .299 AVG | .760 OPS | 27 2B | 0 3B | 2 HR | 6 SB
James McCann continues to swing a hot bat. The 24-year-old catcher went 6-for-14 with four doubles, a walk and two stolen bases this past week. McCann is batting .380 with 12 doubles and 13 RBI this month.


7. RHP Jonathon Crawford - A West Michigan
90 1/3 IP | 2.99 ERA | 1.17 WHIP | 6-2 | 61 K | 34 BB |
Jonathon Crawford earned his sixth win of the season after tossing six scoreless innings. The former first rounder has perked up a bit, posting a 2.25 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over his past three starts--a span of 16 innings. Crawford gets the ball next this evening against the Lake County Captains.


8. 3B Joey Pankake - SS-A Connecticut
125 AB | .336 AVG | .867 OPS | 10 2B | 1 3B | 1 HR | 1 SB
Joey Pankake has been on fire, batting .514 with a 1.214 OPS over his last ten games (37 ABs). Pankake currently boasts the fourth best batting average and fifth best on-base percentage in the NYPL. He also has an 80-grade name and his own sandwich at Dodd Memorial Stadium. The 21-year-old third baseman was the Tigers seventh round selection in this year's MLB First Year Player Draft back in June.


9. RHP Justin Miller - AAA Toledo
34 1/3 IP | 0.79 ERA | 0.79 WHIP | 2-0 | 32 K | 9 BB | 5 SV
Justin Miller has been on a bit of a tear the past two month and he deserves some recognition. The 27-year-old hasn't allowed a run in the month of July and has struck out 13, issuing just two walks over the 14 innings of work. Furthermore, the right-hander has allowed just one run since June 2nd; good enough for a 0.38 ERA over his past 23 2/3 innings.


10. C Grayson Greiner - A West Michigan
90 AB | .322 AVG | .839 OPS | 5 2B | 0 3B | 2 HR |
Grayson Greiner is batting .324 with three doubles and five walks over his last ten games. Greiner was just placed on the disabled list however with a left sprained wrist.
