TigsTown PR 4/28: Fields Claims Top Spot

A group of Mud Hens continue to lead the way at the top of the power rankings, with outfielder Daniel Fields surging to the top spot in a week where he ripped three triples, in addition to a solid average and walking six times.

As a reminder, the weekly rankings do not refect overall prospect status; nor are they exclusive to members of the TigsTown Top 50. The weekly update factors both performance from the previous week of play and overall numbers. Only players currently in the minors will be eligible each week. Daniel Fields' continued to swing a hot bat this past week, going 5-for-19 with six walks and three triples. The 24-year-old's four triples are tops in the International League and his 1.014 OPS ranks fourth best.


2. SS Dixon Machado - AAA Toledo
71 AB | .310 AVG | .689 OPS | 2 2B | 0 3B | 0 HR | 2 SB
Dixon Machado went 7-for-30 this past week, walking twice. The 23-year-old shortstop leads the 'Hens in hits with 22 over a team high 71 at-bats.


3. RHP Buck Farmer - AAA Toledo
21 IP | 3.00 ERA | 1.10 WHIP | 3-0 | 28 K | 10 BB |
Buck Farmer got touched up for eight runs, (six earned), over five innings, but still managed to get a win on Tuesday evening. Sunday afternoon, the right-hander earned his second win of the week, tossing six shutout innings while striking out seven. Farmer leads the 'Hens in innings pitched (21), wins (3) and is second in the International League in strikeouts (28).


4. LHP Kevin Ziomek - A+ Lakeland
22 1/3 IP | 3.22 ERA | 1.16 WHIP | 2-2 | 25 K | 4 BB |
Kevin Ziomek allowed just three hits and two walks, while striking out six over six scoreless innings this past week. The 23-year-old right-hander's 25 strikeouts are currently fifth most in the FSL.


5. RHP Austin Kubitza - AA Erie
15 IP | 1.20 ERA | 1.33 WHIP | 1-0 | 15 K | 9 BB |
Austin Kubitza scattered three hits and three walks, allowing an unearned run while striking out seven over six innings in his lone start of the week. The 23-year-old right-hander currently has the sixth lowest ERA in the Eastern League.


6. LHP Josh Turley - AA Erie
17 IP | 2.12 ERA | 1.29 WHIP | 2-1 | 9 K | 5 BB |
Josh Turley earned his first loss of the season after allowing two earned-runs off eight hits and one walk Monday evening. The 24-year-old southpaw gets the ball again on Sunday, when the 'Wolves battle the Altoona Curve.


7. RHP Spencer Turnbull - A West Michigan
16 2/3 IP | 2.70 ERA | 1.02 WHIP | 1-0 | 11 K | 10 BB |
Spencer Turnbull got a no decision in his lone start of the week. The 22-year-old right-harder worked around five walks and one hit, allowing one earned-run over 5 2/3 innings.


8. RHP Confesor Lara - A+ Lakeland
11 1/3 IP | 1.59 ERA | 0.88 WHIP | 0-0 | 16 K | 3 BB | 1 SV
Confesor Lara struck out seven and allowed one earned run over 4 2/3 innings last week. The 24-year-old right-handed reliever also notched his first save of the season.


9. RHP Johan Belisario - A West Michigan
8 2/3 IP | 1.04 ERA | 1.15 WHIP | 1-0 | 8 K | 3 BB | 1 SV
Johan Belisario allowed one earned run and struck out three over 2 1/3 innings this past week. The 21-year-old right-handed reliever has notched a win, a save and eight strikeouts with a tidy 1.04 ERA over 8 2/3 scoreless innings this season.


10. OF Ben Verlander - A+ Lakeland

Ben Verlander makes his TigsTown Power Rankings debut after going 13-for-32 (.406) over an eight game hitting streak. Unfortunately last night's 0-for-5 put the streak to an end. Regardless, an impress streak for the 23-year-old outfielder.
