5/19 Power Rankings: Bernard Moving Up

On the back of a 20-game hitting streak, Wynton Bernard has made a strong push up the power rankings. Was that enough to overtake Michael Gerber, on a tear in West Michigan?

The weekly update factors both performance from the previous week of play and overall numbers. Only players currently in the minors will be eligible each week. 1. OF Michael Gerber - A West Michigan
137 AB | .380 AVG | .956 OPS | 7 2B | 2 3B | 3 HR | 7 SB
Michael Gerber holds the top spot in TigsTown Power Rankings after another impressive week at the plate. Gerber, the Tigers 14th round pick out of Creighton last June, went 10-for-23 (.435) with a home run, four runs-batted-in and seven walks. The 22-year-old outfielder's .380 batting-average and 29 RBI are currently tops in the MidWest League, and his .956 OPS is also 2nd best on the circuit.


2. RHP Buck Farmer - AAA Toledo
44 1/3 IP | 3.25 ERA | 1.15 WHIP | 1-Apr | 48 K | 16 BB |
Buck Farmer allowed just two earned-runs over 12 1/3 innings in two starts last week. He earned his fourth win of the season and lowered his peripherals to a respectable 3.25 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. The 24-year-old right-hander's 48 strikeouts are an International League best.


3. OF Daniel Fields - AAA Toledo
123 AB | .293 AVG | .943 OPS | 11 2B | 6 3B | 2 HR | 8 SB
Daniel Fields went just 7-for-28 (.250) this past week. Fields doubled three times, tripled once, walked three times and stole his 8th base of the season. The 24-year-old's six triples are tops in the International League and his .943 OPS currently ranks third best on the circuit.


4. OF Wynton Bernard - AA Erie
132 AB | .295 AVG | .765 OPS | 9 2B | 1 3B | 2 HR | 10 SB
Wynton Bernard shoves his way up to the four spot in the power rankings after an impressive 20-game hit streak that ended on Sunday. The 24-year-old outfielder is batting .378 over his last ten games, and .339 with an .876 OPS in the month of May.


5. SS Dixon Machado - AAA Toledo
144 AB | .285 AVG | .697 OPS | 6 2B | 0 3B | 1 HR | 5 SB
Dixon Machado went just 6-for-23 (.261) this past week. Machado added two doubles, walked four times and stole two more bases. After a hot start, the 23-year-old shortstop has cooled down a bit at the plate, batting just .242 with a .642 OPS in the month of May.


6. RHP Johan Belisario - A West Michigan
16 IP | 1.69 ERA | 1.13 WHIP | Jan-00 | 19 K | 5 BB | 5 SV
Johan Belisario picked up a save and allowed two earned-runs over 2 1/3 innings and two appearances. The 21-year-old right-handed reliever slips a couple spots, but still boasts a respectable 1.69 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 19 strikeouts over 16 innings.


7. RHP Confesor Lara - AA Erie
20 1/3 IP | 1.77 ERA | 0.88 WHIP | Feb-00 | 22 K | 5 BB | 3 SV
Confesor Lara slides down a few notches after allowing one earned run off three hits and a walk over two innings this past week. The 24-year-old right-handed reliever has a 4.50 ERA with one strikeout over four innings since his promotion to Double-A Erie.


8. OF Ross Kivett - A West Michigan
151 AB | .311 AVG | .787 OPS | 12 2B | 1 3B | 1 HR | 8 SB
Ross Kivett makes his power rankings debut, climbing up to the number eight spot. Kivett is batting an impressive .352 with an .866 OPS over 71 at-bats this month. The 23-year-old outfielder's 12 doubles are second most in the MidWest League.


9. DH Dean Green - AA Erie
104 AB | .346 AVG | .897 OPS | 5 2B | 0 3B | 3 HR | 0 SB
Dean Green went 9-for-29 (.310) with a double and two walks this past week. The 25-year-old DH is batting .314 with a .767 OPS over 70 at-bats this month.


10. OF Xavier Avery - AAA Toledo
121 AB | .322 AVG | .759 OPS | 7 2B | 0 3B | 0 HR | 9 SB
Xavier Avery went just 5-for-26 (.192) with a walk this past week. Avery's .322 batting-average is still currently 12th best in the International League. The 25-year-old outfielder is batting .311 with an OPS of .750 over 61 at-bats this month.
