At the Park Scouting Report: Alberto Cabrera

The Tigers brought Alberto Cabrera into the organization this past off-season as a low risk minor league free agent, who has spent the season with Toledo. Could Cabrera be a potential option in the big league bullpen?

Name: Alberto Cabrera
Position: Right-handed Pitcher
Date of Birth: 10/25/1988
Bats/Throws: Right/Right
Dates Observed: July 9, 16 and 28, 2015
Acquired: Minor League Free Agent, 2015

Body: (6’ 4”, 210) Tall frame that fits listed height/weight; good pitchers body; little to no projection remains.

Delivery/Mechanics: Straight forward but inconsistent delivery; arm angle inconsistent; has big drive towards the plate; effort in delivery noticeably ramps up when trying to throw harder; falls towards 1st on delivery; little to no deception.

Fastball: 90-94 t95; velocity and movement both inconsistent; most have small arm side run; pitch is flat when up in the zone; little ability to command the zone with the pitch; grade plays down due to inconsistency in the velo/movement. Grade: Present 5+/Future 5+

Slider: 83-85; 11-5 action; inconsistent movement with occasional plus offering; releases from same slot at fastball; unable to command the pitch in the zone; thrown mostly in zone ahead in the count. Grade: Present 4+/ Future 4+

Control/Command: Keeps the ball in the zone; limits walks; little ability to command the ball in the zone; fastball is left up in the zone more often than not; control gets worse if he tries to throw harder.

Other: Was visibly frustrated in all three outings as he gave up more and more hits.

Summary: Two-pitch repertoire; inconsistent delivery; hard fastball with small movement; slider offers inconsistent action but occasionally flashes plus; limits walks; struggles commanding pitches within the zone.

Projection: Ceiling middle inning MLB reliever; realistic organizational reliever.
