Toledo Mud Hens Player of the Year: 3B Jefry Marte
|2015 Stats - Hitting|
The Tigers always manage to find a few minor league free agents to help bolster the Toledo lineup, and the 2015 season was no different with the addition of Jefry Marte. Still just 24-years old, Marte entered the year having found intermittent success in the New York (N) and Oakland organizations before signing with the Tigers last winter. In 95 games with Toledo, Marte raked with .828 OPS that included 25 doubles and 15 home runs, including an electric June that saw Marte post a .317/.383/.625 line and earnd him a call-up to Detroit. With 30 games spanning a couple of trips to the big leagues this year, Marte has popped four doubles and three home runs, driving in nine runs while helping bolster the Tigers bench. Now on the 40-man roster, Marte could return to the Tigers next season and could provide some much needed corner infield depth as he attempts to translate his strong Triple-A performance to the big leagues.
Toledo Mud Hens Pitcher of the Year: RHP Guido Knudson
|2015 Stats - Pitching|
After starting the season in the Double-A Erie bullpen where he posted a 3.12 ERA in 17-1/3 innings of work, Knudson made his way to Toledo where he upped his game and dominated in the late innings. In 32 outings for the Mudhens, Knudson picked up ten saves while finishing 16 games. In 42-1/3 innings on the bump Knudson limited opposing batters to just 28 hits and one home run, though he did walk 21 guys. Knudson mitigated his high walk rate by fanning 44 batters en route to a 2.34 ERA and a promotion to the big league bullpen. In four games with the Tigers, Knudson has struggled adjusting to the game’s highest level of competition, giving up 13 hits (five home runs) and ten runs in just five innings. Knduson still has good raw stuff and could contribute to the Tigers bullpen down the line, if he can figure out how to locate his fastball against big league hitters.
