Detroit Tigers Fall & Winter Ball: Rondon Makes His Debut

The Major League Baseball season may be over, but that doesn't mean the games stop. Dozens of players from each organization head across the globe to continue honing their craft. Here's how Tigers players are faring in various fall and winter leagues.

Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) - Just three Tigers prospects saw action in the Dominican last week, as lefty Jairo Labourt celebrated his addition to the 40-man roster by not pitching at all. Pitchers Confesor Lara and Jose Valdez each got into two games, with Lara surrendering one run over 3 2/3 innings, and Valdez giving up two in an inning-and-a-third. Outfielder Steven Moya had a fine week at the plate, going 7-for-18 with two doubles and three RBIs. He continues to shake off his rough year in the minors, and his .329 batting average would rank fourth in the LIDOM if he had a few more plate appearances.

Venezuelan Professional Baseball League - Six Tigers prospects saw playing time in Venezuela last week, but the most notable performance was from embattled reliever Bruce Rondon, who gave up two hits and struck out one in his first competitive action since being sent home by the Tigers in late September. The only other pitcher to play was Alfred Gutierrez, who threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings over two appearances. Four position players got into games, led by catcher Miguel Gonzalez who went 5-for-19 with two doubles in six games, and infielder Harold Castro, who got into five games but only batted six times.

Last week he appeared in two games, tossing two scoreless innings while giving up one hit and striking out four, and collecting his third save for the Gigantes de Carolina.

In two games, Drummond pitched two innings, giving up one hit while striking out three, and needing only 23 pitches to do it.
