he Major League Baseball season may be over, but that doesn't mean the games stop. Dozens of players from each organization head across the globe to continue honing their craft. Here's how Tigers players are faring in various winter leagues, including an Australian prospect returning to action.
Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) - The LIDOM regular season came to a close on the 21st, with four of the league’s six teams making the round-robin playoffs. No Tigers prospects participated on the final day of the regular season, and the playoffs tend to feature more established veterans and fewer prospects, so only Steven Moya and Confesor Lara saw action on Sunday. Moya’s Toros del Este knocked off the top-seeded Estrellas de Oriente, but the big slugger went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts. Lara pitched 2/3 of an inning for the Estrellas, giving up one hit and throwing a wild pitch.

Venezuelan Professional Baseball League - The LVBP regular season comes to a close on Tuesday the 29th, with six of the league’s eight teams moving on into the playoff round. The final week of the regular season didn’t see much action from prospects, but several of the organization’s minor-league free-agent acquisitions saw heavy participation. Cory Riordan and Angel Nesbitt were the only pitchers to see the mound last week, with Nesbitt tossing a single scoreless inning, and the veteran Riordan hurling 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball. Infielders Harold Castro (1-for-1), Jose Zambrano (6-for-13), and Alberto Gonzalez (6-for-17) all had solid weeks at the plate, while catcher Miguel Gonzalez got into two games and recorded one hit in three at-bats.

Liga de Beisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente -
The Clemente League comes to a close on January 4th, and closer Joe Jimenez remains the only Tigers prospect to see regular game action. He pitched twice last week, giving up three hits and a run in his first outing, but coming back to pitch a perfect frame and pick up his sixth save of the season on Saturday.

Mexican Pacific League - Like the Venezuelan league, the MPL regular season concludes on the 29th. The Tigers’ lone representative, pitcher Julio Felix, plays for the Charros de Jalisco, whose four-game losing streak appears to have knocked them out of playoff contention. The right-hander pitched twice last week, giving up three earned runs in 2/3 of an inning on the 21st, but bouncing back with a perfect inning on the 23rd.

Australian Baseball League - Infielder Aaron Sayers finally made it back on the field last week after missing more than five weeks with a hand injury...just as pitcher Calvin Drummond was saying goodbye to his Sydney Blue Sox teammates for the year. Sayers went 1-for-9 with a double, and RBI, and two runs scored in his return to action, while Drummond finishes his time in Australia with a 5.52 ERA (though he only gave up runs in two of his fifteen outings) and six saves in seven chances.
