Detroit Tigers Coaches Dish on Pitching Prospects

Wrapping up the series on some notes and quotes from Detroit Tigers coaches, we take a look at a few key comments on top pitching prospects in the system, and also watch Gerson Moreno in action.

On Spencer Turnbull and Artie Lewicki

Whitecaps Pitching Coach Mark Johnson: Well, you know, he’s got a plus fastball, and at times he’s shown flashes of an above-average slider, and his changeup has come a long way. And just overall, he’s worked hard this year trying to be more consistent.

Lewicki has worked hard. He came back from injury and he’s building up and becoming more consistent, and just learning how to pitch. His stuff is good, and he has been able to make adjustments.

On Joe Jimenez and Johan Belisario

Johnson: Jimenez has a lively arm and he attacks the strike zone well. He’s mixing his pitches up better, but also can overpower you at times, and he’s done a good job of pitching to both sides of the plate. Belisario, he seems to be able to make the pitch when he needs to, and in pressure situations he stays calm and able to put his best stuff forward and make quality pitches.

On Gerson Moreno

Whitecaps Manager Andrew Graham:

Gerson Moreno, who was with me last year, he just threw an inning today and looked good.
