This year's Whitecaps team is headlined by power starter Kyle Funkhouser, the Tigers fourth round selection in the 2016 draft and #8 overall in the org. Funkhouser was a first round pick in 2015, but didn't sign hoping to return to the top ten, but instead slid all the way to the Tigers in the fourth round. He will be joined in the rotation by fellow top 50 members Anthony Castro and Gregory Soto. Castro falls in just behind Funkhouser in the top ten as the #9 prospect and the left-handed Soto was ranked 33rd.
In addition to Soto and Funkhouser, the reliever corp has a number of intriguing arms, with four members of the Top 50 in Bryan Garcia (25th), Zac Houston (31st), Eduardo Jimenez (32nd) and Jason Foley (45th).
Among the position players, the star power isn't quite as strong, but the Whitecaps will feature Anthony Pereira, one of the most highly-followed international prospects in the Tigers system. Ranked 15th overall and just 20 years of age, Pereira didn't post great numbers in 2016 as he bounced around, but oozes potential.
As the lone lineup member in the Top 50, Pereira will get his share of attention, but returning Whitecaps like Cam Gibson and Blaise Salter will help provide productivity at the plate as well.
