REPORT: Urbina to Sign with Tigers

Reports out of Lakeland have the Tigers making another big addition from last season's world champions, this time to the pitching staff. Closer Ugueth Urbina is reportedly in Lakeland and has agreed to a contract with the Tigers.

Ugueth Urbina had an impressive year last season, capping it off with a World Series ring with the world champion Florida Marlins. However, Urbina didn't receive the big money contract offer he hoped for in the offseason, and rather than sign a less-than-desirable deal, he waited, even floating the idea of spending the season in Japan.

The Tigers unimpressive bullpen however appears to have gotten the best of them, and now, according to Danny Knobler of Mlive.com and WDFN 1130, they apparently have made an offer to Urbina that he considers strong enough to leave the free agent market and sign. It appears Urbina is prepared to sign a one-year deal with the Tigers, that will include an option held by the Tigers for a second year. No specifics have yet been mentioned, but the deal is expected to be in the neighborhood of $4 million for the first season.
