White hits walkoff homer, leads Tigs to 5-2 win

The Detroit Tigers happen to have the AL RBI leader patrolling their Outfield; and on Saturday afternoon (amidst Pistons and Red Wings playoff games as well as the NFL Draft) launched a walkoff 3-run home run to win the game for the Tigers in the bottom of the ninth. Ugueth Urbina got the win after almost allowing the Indians to take the lead in the top of the ninth, before being aided by an inning-ending double play.

Nate Robertson had a solid outing for the Tigers, going 5 innings while allowing 2 runs and striking out 6. The Tigers used 4 relievers (Al Levine, Jamie Walker, Danny Patterson and Ugueth Urbina) to finish off the game. Urbina earned the victory after pitching a scoreless 9th despite a huge scare. Urbina walked 2 batters in a row, then hit a batter to load the bases. Urbina then got Matt Lawton to hit a fly ball to very shallow Left Field, and Omar Visquel tried to score tagging up from 3rd, but was thrown out at the plate.

The offensive star of the game was obviously White, who went 3-for-4 with the game winning Home Run. Bobby Higginson also had a solid game at the plate, going 1-for-3 with 2 RBI. 2B Fernando Vina, who has had a solid but quiet start to the season, went 1-for-3 with a walk while scoring the game winning run, getting on-base in the 9th on an infield single.

With the win, the Tigers bump their record up to 11-7 while the Indians fell to 6-12. The two teams finish up the 3-game set Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm, with Tiger ace Jason Johnson facing Jake Westbrook, who earned a start after his 7-inning no hitter against the Tigers, and due to C.C. Sabathia throwing with some pain earlier in the week, causing him to miss a start.
