Tigers Fall in Extra Innings to M's, 3-1

Jason Johnson has had an extremely inconsistent start to the season, however, with the exception of opening day, whenever he has performed well, the Tiger offense has failed to give him the support the Tigers have consistently provided all season long. Freddy Garcia held the Tiger offense in check all night, as did a trio of Mariner relievers.

Ever since opening day, Jason Johnson just can't seem to get a break. Johnson had an excellent outing on Friday night, but Freddy Garcia matched Johnson's performance, keeping the Tiger offense under wraps. The game entered extra innings, but in the top of the 10th Tiger reliever Al Levine allowed a pair of runs, and the Tigers couldn't match in the bottom half of the inning. Levine took the loss, while former Tiger Mike Myers got the win and Eddie Guardado recorded his 4th save of the season.

Offensive notables were few and far between. OF Bobby Higginson had the Tiger lone RBI on a sacrifice fly that scored 2B Fernando Vina, pushing his season total up to 17 - despite not yet hitting a Home Run, Higginson is experiencing his best start in years. For the Mariners, Raul Ibanez was responsible for the runs in the 10th, launching a 2-run homer to give the Mariners the win.

The loss drops the Tigers to 12-11 on the year. RHP Jeremy Bonderman takes the mound for the Tigers on Saturday afternoon in hopes of stopping the Tigers recent skid. Bonderman takes on Ryan Franklin. Gametime is set for 1:05pm.
