Robertson Shuts Down Mariners, Tigs win 5-0

A night after the Tigers young duo at the corners cost the team the game with back-to-back errors (that allowed the winning run to score), each decided to start to break out of his own personal streak - as both Carlos Pena and Eric Munson hit a Home Run. The run support was plenty for LHP Nate Robertson, who shut out the Mariners.

Nate Robertson came into the game with one of the best strikeout ratios in the American League. Robertson only got 3 strikeouts on Friday night, but that was plenty as in the process he shut out the Mariners for 7 innings. Al Levine allowed a hit in the 8th, but put down any threat to turn the ball over to Ugueth Urbina, who closed the game out for the Tigers (although the Tigers lead was too much to get the save).

On the other side, Gil Meche was a strikeout machine, striking out 11 Tiger batters in his 6 innings of work. Unfortunately for Meche, he allowed 4 runs in the process and took the loss.

At the plate, a pair that have been struggling mightily lately (Carlos Pena and Eric Munson) each launched a Home Run for the Tigers - hopefully a sign that the pair are going to slowly break out of the slump they're in. 2B Omar Infante and CF Alex Sanchez also each had a pair of hits.

The Tigers continue to float around the .500 mark, moving back to within a game of it at 20-21. The Tigers face the Mariners again on Saturday night, with Jason Johnson going up against Joel Piniero. Game time is 10:05pm, television Fox Sports Detroit.
