Garcia shuts down Tigers, Mariners win 3-1

The Tigers took down the Mariners in the first 2 games of the series, but Freddy Garcia was set to make sure game 3 of the series turned out differently. Despite the Tigers sending out arguably their top starter - Jeremy Bonderman - Garcia and the M's still were able to get the best of the Tigers to take the finale of the 3-game set at Safeco Field.

Jeremy Bonderman had another strong outing, unfortunately, Freddy Garcia had a better one. Bonderman threw 114 pitches in 7 innings, allowing all 3 Mariner runs while striking out 5. Steve Colyer and Esteban Yan combined to close out the final inning for the Tigers, but the damage had already been done, and the 3 runs were plenty for Garcia.

Garcia, who coming into the season was a huge question mark, has proven that he can still pitch with the best of them, going 7 innings allowing the Tigers lone run while striking out 7. It was just Garcia's second win of the season, but his ERA is a very impressive 2.71.

OF Craig Monroe was responsible for the Tigers lone run, driving in Bobby Higginson. For the Mariners, OF Raul Ibanez went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and John Olerud launched his 2nd home run of the year.

The Tigers once again sit one game below .500 at 21-22. They have Monday off before heading out to Kansas City for a 3-game set. In the first game on Tuesday night, Mike Maroth takes on Jimmy Gobble. Game time is 8:10pm, televised on Fox Sports Detroit.
