Mets sweep away Tigers, 6-1

On Sunday, the Tigers got a taste of Steve Trachsel and his mind-numbingly slow pitching. But, it worked for the Mets, as the Tigers couldn't convert threats into runs against Trachsel, and a big 4-run 4th inning off Tiger starter Jeremy Bonderman gave Trachsel plenty of cushion to send the Tigers packing with 3 straight losses in the Big Apple.

Save one small stretch, and Jeremy Bonderman had an excellent game. Unfortunately, that one little stretch was a 4-run inning for the Mets, all with 2 outs. For the game, Bonderman went 5 innings, giving up 4 runs and striking out 7. He took the loss to fall to 5-6 on the year.

Opposing him, Steve Trachsel was, in one word, boring. His slow pace had the Tigers baffled, as the couldn't turn scoring threats into runs, the only run coming on a passed ball and a hustle play by Ivan Rodriguez. Trachsel got the win, his 7th of the year, for going 6 innings with 1 earned run.

The Tigers got a couple threats going, but could never convert any of them into a big inning. Carlos Guillen had a pair of hits for the Tigers, and Rodriguez had a hit, a run and 2 walks. For the Mets, Richard Hidalgo had a 2-run Home Run (his first as a Met), and 1B Eric Valent had another 2 RBI that came in the 4-run 4th inning.

The Tigers, back at 6 games under .500, now have an off day before starting a 3-game set in Kansas City. Mike Maroth will face Jimmy Gobble, with an 8:10 start time.

NOTES:Before the game, Franklyn German was promoted from AAA Toledo to the Tigers, while Steve Colyer was sent down. German pitched in Sunday's game, allowing 1 walk and no runs in an inning of work.
