Tigers win, finally, 12-3

The Tigers have been struggling of late. So it was only fitting that the Tigers best starter through the first half of the season would be the one to help pull them out of the funk. Nate Robertson gave the Tigers 6 solid innings, and the offense awoke and put up 12 runs against the Royals to end their 5 game losing streak.

Robertson's outing was just another in his typical fashion; 6 innings, 3 earned runs, but only 2 strikeouts. Regardless of how many batters Robertson strikes out though, the most important thing is to win, and that's what Robertson did, improving his record to 6-3 on the year.

The Royals weren't quite as lucky, as Chris George was hit hard, giving up 5 runs in only 3 innings of work.

At the plate, there were quite a few big contributors. Ivan Rodriguez had 4 hits and 4 RBI, continuing his hot month at the plate. Brandon Inge and Bobby Higginson each had 3 hits at the top of the order, and Craig Monroe and Carlos Pena each drove in a pair of runs at the bottom of it.

The Royals got Home Runs from Carlos Beltran and Mike Sweeney, but little else. Unfortunately for the Tigers, Beltran was shipped to Houston after the game, ending his run as a Tiger killer (hopefully).

The Tigers now move on to a 3-game set with Arizona. First pitch at Comerica Park is scheduled for 7:05pm with Brandon Webb facing Jason Johnson.
