After a string of poor starts, the Tigers were in desperate need of a good start from their most reliable starter this season; Nate Robertson. But, the pressure seemed to get to Robertson, as he wasn't able to stop the Yankees potent lineup from the very start.
Robertson was only able to make it 1 2/3 innings before Alan Trammell had to pull the plug. Robertson simply couldn't find the strike zone, as he walked 3 batters and allowed 8 hits en route to 7 runs allowed.
Esteban Yan relieved Robertson, but he was tossed out of the game at the beginning of the 4th for a pitch that buzzed by Alex Rodriguez's head. Al Levine and Steve Colyer finished up, each allowing another run.
Jon Lieber on the other side was very solid, going 6 2/3 innings while allowing 3 earned runs. Lieber also struck out 6 and walked 1.
Those stats pale in comparison however to the Yankees. Bernie Williams went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored, including a Home Run. Alex Rodriguez had identical stats as well. Ruben Sierra and Gary Sheffield also had Home Runs.
