Another one-run win for the Tigers

The Tigers had a battle on their hands Friday night. Not only did they have to face Chicago White Sox, but they had to battle a rain delay as well as playing through the rain. But in the end they came away victorious, getting their second straight one-run victory over the Chicago White Sox.

After being promoted just days ago, Wilfredo Ledezma was moved up into the Tiger rotation after Gary Knotts was placed on the Disabled List with shoulder soreness.

In his first 3 innings, Ledezma was excellent, striking out 4 and allowing just 1 baserunner (via a walk). But then came a rain delay, and Ledezma's day would be done.

Ledezma's teammate for a good portion of the year in AA Erie, Roberto Novoa, then came on and gave the Tigers another 3 innings. Novoa did allow 2 runs, but both were unearned. Danny Patterson then came on and lost the lead, trying to pitch through a downpour. Esteban Yan relieved him, and got the final 2 outs, he would later get the win after the Tigers got a run in the bottom of the 8th.

Ugueth Urbina, in possibly his final appearance as a Tiger, came on in and pitched a perfect 9th, including ending the game on a strikeout to get his 17th save.

Damaso Marte took the loss for Chicago, after walking in the go-ahead run in the 8th inning. Jon Garland got a no decision as the White Sox starter, going 6 innings with 4 runs allowed.

Once again, Bobby Higginson had the game winning RBI, and once again it came without a hit. This time, a bases loaded walk proved to be the game winner.

Besides Higginson's walk, Dmitri Young went 1-for-4 with a 2-run Home Run. Omar Infante and Carlos Guillen also had 2 hits apiece.

The Sox got 2 hits from Carl Everett, and 2 RBI from Carlos Lee.

Now back at 5 games under .500, the Tigers will hope to keep their streak going on Saturday evening. A pair of lefties will face off against each other - Mark Buehrle takes on Mike Maroth (assuming he's not moved as well). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
