Angels edge Tigers 3-2

Jason Johnson kept the Tigers in the game but gave up the go-ahead run in the 8th, and the offense couldn't do enough to get the team a victory. Aaron Sele and the Angels bullpen slowed down the Tiger offense, and despite Johnson going the distance the offense didn't put up the same numbers that they did on Saturday night.

Jason Johnson is going through a rough stretch. For whatever reason, the offense just hasn't been able to provide him much support in his last several outings, leaving Johnson with a 1-4 record in his last 5 decisions.

That pattern continued Sunday, when Johnson pitched a complete game against the Angels, but still lost. Johnson went 8 innings, giving up 3 runs (2 earned) with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts. But, the Angels' pitchers did one better, only giving up 2 runs, and in turn handing Johnson his 11th loss of the year.

The Tigers couldn't do much at the plate, managing just a pair of unearned runs. Carlos Pena went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, while Nook Logan went 1-for-3 with a run.

The Angels didn't have any big performances at the plate either, but there was enough support to out-score the Tigers. Chone Figgins went 2-for-3 at the bottom of the order, and Darin Erstad and Garrett Anderson each had a hit and an RBI.

The Tigers, back to 9 games under .500 at 54-63, are off on Monday, getting a break after their west coast trip. The Tigers, aren't done on the road yet, as on Tuesday they start a 3-game series with Chicago. Wilfredo Ledezma gets the start for the Tigers, going up against Freddy Garcia. Game time is 8:05pm.
