First off, the completed trade. To complete their trade from earlier this year with the Cubs, the Tigers sent left-handed reliever Eric Eckenstahler to Chicago. The Tigers originally received Felix Sanchez in the deal in which they now give up Eckenstahler and their 2003 minor league Pitcher of the Year, Jon Connolly.
The Tigers are still at a standstill with their top pick; Justin Verlander. But, they did come to terms with their 2nd round pick - Eric Beattie. Beattie, who received a reported $800,000 signing bonus, will not pitch competitively this season, but will report to Lakeland in September for the Fall Instructional League.
And finally, the Tigers have released the players they'll be sending to the Arizona Fall League. Among the position players, the Tigers will send CF Curtis Granderson, 2B Ryan Raburn and 1B/C/DH Chris Shelton. Granderson and Raburn have spent the 2003 season with AA Erie, while Shelton has been a fixture as a Tiger benchwarmer as a Rule V selection.
The Tigers will also send a trio of pitchers; Roberto Novoa, Preston Larrison and Mark Woodyard. All three have spent most of their seasons at Erie, with Novoa now pitching out of the bullpen for the Tigers.
