Indians squeak by Tigers 5-3

It just wasn't the Tigers night. Mike Maroth pitched 7 strong innings, only to see the effort wasted as Esteban Yan allowed 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th to give the lead right back to the Indians, a deficit in which the offense couldn't come back from. In minor league news, Game 2 of the Midwest League Championship Series was postponed.

It just wasn't meant to be. Despite Mike Maroth pitching well all year long and turning in yet another solid start, he couldn't pull out a victory.

Maroth allowed 2 runs on 8 hits through 7 innings, walking 1 and striking out 5. Even better for Maroth was that in the top of the 8th, Ivan Rodriguez hit a solo Home Run to take a 3-2 lead.

But the Indians took the lead right back, getting 3 runs off Esteban Yan to distance themselves from the Tigers.

Besides Rodriguez' Home Run (his 18th), Carlos Pena also had a solo Home Run (his 21st). Brandon Inge also drove in a run.

For the Indians, Ben Broussard's 2-run double in the 9th provided the game winning runs. Ron Belliard also went 2-for-4 with a solo Home Run.

Also, in a bit of a rarity, Third Baseman Eric Munson was ejected from the game in the 1st inning for arguing a call made by First Base Umpire Jim Reynolds. The strange part of it was that Munson was not in the lineup for the game with Cleveland, as he was ejected for coming onto the field for arguing the call. Manager Alan Trammell protested as well, but was not tossed.

The rubber match of the series takes place on Thursday evening, again at 7:05pm. Gary Knotts will face C.C. Sabathia.

NOTES: Game 2 of the Midwest League Championship series between West Michigan and Kane County was postponed. No word yet on what changes will be made, and whether or not the two team's will still head to West Michigan for Thursday's game.
