Tigers swept away in 5-0 defeat to O's

Baltimore finished off the Tigers on Sunday afternoon, as they completed a season sweep of the Tigers. This time Rodrigo Lopez was the one doing the damage, as he pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just 3 hits. And while he didn't need it, he received plenty of offensive support, including a pair of Home Runs off Tiger starter Mike Maroth.

It wasn't Mike Maroth's best outing of the season, but it certainly wasn't bad.

Maroth was plagued again by minimal run support (none, to be exact) and that coupled with a pair of early home runs put the Tigers in a big hole.

Maroth gave up 3 runs in the first 2 innings, but then settled down, not allowing another run until the 8th inning, when he allowed 2 more O's runners to score - although that was probably more due to fatigue than poor pitching. Maroth gave up all 5 Baltimore runs over 7 2/3 innings, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

Rodrigo Lopez had no struggles whatsoever, pitching a gem. Lopez went the distance, allowing just 3 Tiger hits; none for extra bases. Lopez also struck out 7 in his 14th win of the year.

The O's offense was led by Miguel Tejada, who had another monster game against the Tigers. Tejada went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, including his 32nd Home Run of the season. B.J. Surhoff also added a Home Run for Baltimore.

The Tigers continue their freefall to close out the year, as the team is now 18 games under .500 at 68-86. They now will host a 3-game set with Chicago on Monday, with Gary Knotts facing Jason Grilli. Game time is 7:05pm.
