Detroit Tigers - 67-78, 4th in AL Central
Knocking on the door of 20 wins, Bartolo Colon will just have to wait another five days before he can move to the 20 win group as the Tigers handed him a loss in their 8-6 victory. The Tiger offense exploded early against Colon, then the bullpen held on at the end to secure the victory. Mike Maroth got the win, his 13th of the year, though he gave up all six of the Angels' runs. Magglio Ordonez blasted a solo home run, while Curtis Granderson had a pair of hits and three RBI, including an inside the park home run. Craig Monroe chipped in with three hits and two RBI, and Carlos Pena had two hits and scored two runs. Jason Johnson will face John Lackey in game two on Friday night at 10:05pm eastern.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - win 3-0 vs. Indianapolis
The Mud Hens are the International League champions, completing the sweep of Indianapolis on Thursday night. There was little offense through the first four innings, but then Toledo turned it on as they ran away with an 8-3 victory. Jason Grilli got the victory, allowing a pair of runs (after Toledo had scored eight runs) in 7 2/3 innings of work. Mark Woodyard wasn't very effective in relief (giving up a pair of hits without recording an out) and so Jason Karnuth was brought in to record the final four outs to clinch the series. Both Marcus Thames and Mike Hessman blasted three run home runs, while Dewayne Wise had three hits and two runs and Ryan Raburn added three hits. It is the first time Toledo has claimed the Governor's Cup since 1967.
