Maroth Leads Charge to Series Victory

Don't look now, but the Tigers are heating up, having won their last two games. That may sound trivial, but the Tigers hadn't been able to put together back-to-back wins in nearly two weeks. Mike Maroth helped lead the way with his 14th victory of the season.

Detroit Tigers - 69-86, 4th in AL Central
From eight straight losses to a blowout win. The Tigers did just that with an 8-1 victory over the Mariners on Sunday afternoon. The win gave the Tigers the series win, something they hadn't accomplished since their series with Kansas City near the beginning of the month. Mike Maroth got the victory, giving up a run on four hits in seven strong innings for the Tigers. It turned out he wouldn't need much run support, but the Tigers gave it to him anyway, with a big five run fifth inning to help provide the cushion. Vance Wilson and John McDonald each brought home a run before Curtis Granderson brought them both home with a two RBI triple. Granderson had two hits and two runs in the game. Carlos Pena capped off the scoring for the Tigers with a two run blast in the eighth inning, his 16th home run of the year (and 13th since being brought back up to Detroit in August). The Tigers now have the opportunity to play spoiler, hosting the Chicago White Sox for a four game series. The first game takes place on Monday evening at 7:05pm, with Jason Johnson going up against Jon Garland.
