'Wolves Struggle, Rest Roll (5/9 Recaps)

The Whitecaps fell behind early, but were able to make a big comeback, while Toledo and Lakeland both picked up wins to return to .500. Clete Thomas helped lead Lakeland's comeback, which required a four-run ninth to send it into extra innings, belting a three run home run.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - TOLEDO 4, NORFOLK 2
16-16, 2nd in West division
Zach Miner won his fifth game of the season to lead the Toledo Mud Hens to a 4-2 victory over the visiting Norfolk Tide (10-23). Miner (5-0) went six solid innings, scattering five hits, striking out five batters, allowing just two runs, as the Mud hens won their third game in four nights improving their season record back to .500. Toledo catcher Max St. Pierre led the Mud Hens offensively at the plate belting a two-out home run in the sixth inning. Ryan Raburn and Don Kelly each knocked a double, with Kelly picking up an RBI as well as another stolen base, his team leading eleventh of the season. Chris Spurling took over for Miner in the seventh and eighth innings, pitching two innings of scoreless baseball, before Lee Gardner came on in the ninth to close it and pick up his seventh save on the season. With the four game series tied at a win a piece, the two teams will continue Wednesday beginning at 6:30 p.m at Fifth Third Field in Toledo.

AA Erie SeaWolves - AKRON 5, ERIE 1
12-20, 6th in Southern division
The SeaWolves couldn't get anything going Tuesday, losing to Akron 5-1. Starter Humberto Sanchez gave up five earned runs on four hits and 2 walks in five and two thirds innings. Sanchez struck out eight batters, giving him a total of 54 for the season. Scott Tousa went three for four on the day and had Erie's only RBI, his fourth of the year. Other than Tousa, Erie managed only three baserunners for the rest of the game. The series continues Wednesday in Erie, at 11:05am.

HiA Lakeland Tigers - LAKELAND 7, DAYTONA 6
16-16, t-3rd in West division
Lakeland scores 4 in the 9th and 1 in the 10th to defeat Daytona 7-6 Tuesday night. Jeff Hahn got the win after pitching a scoreless 10th which improves his record to (5-1). Andrew Kown started for the L-Tigers but got the no decision after throwing 5 innings and only allowing 1 run. With the L-Tigers down by 4 runs in the 9th, Chris Robinson scored on a sac fly from Gilberto Mejia to cut the deficit to 3. Then with 2 on and 1 out, Clete Thomas, who went 3-5 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored, hit a 3-run homer, his 4th, to tie the game. In the bottom of the 10th Wilkin Ramirez scored the game winning run on a wild pitch. The L-Tigers travel to Vero Beach to play Wednesday at 7:00pm.

A West Mich. Whitecaps - W. MICH. 8, BELOIT 5
21-10, 1st in Eastern division

The Whitecaps fell behind early to the Snappers, but had big innings in both the fifth and sixth to pull ahead and win 8-5. Starting pitcher Luke French (4-1) was scored on quickly, allowing four runs, three earned, in four innings of work with six strikeouts and three walks. Jay Sborz picked up the win, pitching two and a third innings of relief. Orlando Perdomo pitched a perfect ninth to earn his league-leading eleventh save. Justin Justice continued to tear the cover off the ball, going 3-for-4 with a double, two triples, four RBIs and a run scored. Pedro Cotto went 3-for-4 for the second game in a row, scoring two runs and driving in one. Ryan Roberson went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a RBI. Jeramy Laster also went 2-for-4, driving in two and scoring a run. The 'Caps face the Snappers again the 10th as Ramon Garcia (5-1) faces Brian Duensing (1-1).
