Two Wins, Two Off Days (5/11 Recaps)

Erie had a scheduled day off on Thursday, while heavy rains kept the Whitecaps from getting their game in. But Toledo and Lakeland certainly didn't disappoint, especially offensively, as the two clubs combined for 25 runs, including a monster game from Ryan Ludwick.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - TOLEDO 14, NORFOLK 5
17-16, 2nd in West division
The Toledo Mud Hens completed their four game home-stand against Norfolk with a 14-5 romp over the Tide on Thursday afternoon at Fifth Third Field. The Mud Hens battered Norfolk pitching for an impressive 18 hits in the win, and now find themselves just 1-1/2 games behind first place Indianapolis in the West Division. Ryan Ludwick had one of his most impressive performances at the plate this season scoring three runs on four hits including a pair of doubles and a home run, topping it all off with five RBI's in the game. Alexis Gomez, fresh off his return from the Detroit Tigers, was also a standout with three hits that included a double, a triple and four RBI's. Ryan Raburn also had four hits including a triple, picking up three RBI's, while Kevin Hooper and Josh Phelps also tallied for a pair of hits each in the one sided match. Toledo starter Chad Durbin (3-1) picked up his third win of the season after going 6-1/3 innings striking out five, giving up a walk, allowing four runs to Norfolk. Mark Woodyard and Alex Herrera combined in relief to maintain the commanding lead and secure the win. The Mud Hens now begin a ten game road swing starting in Richmond Friday night, where they'll kick off a four game series against the Braves beginning at 7:00 p.m.

AA Erie SeaWolves - OFF DAY
12-21, 6th in Southern division
The SeaWolves had Thursday off, their next game being in Reading on Friday night, at 7:05pm.

HiA Lakeland Tigers - LAKELAND 11, VERO BCH. 10
18-16, t-3rd in West division
Lakeland bangs out 17 hits and beats Vero Beach 11-10 Thursday night. Jair Jurrjens started but only lasted 3 innings after giving up 2 runs. Freddy Dolsi picked up his first win of the season (1-2), and Eddie Bonine got the final out to pick up his first save of the season. The L-Tigers scored 6 runs in the 5th, the first two coming off of Chris Robinson's double. And with two outs and the bases loaded Jeff Larish doubled clearing the bases. Nick McIntyre led off the 6th with his second home run of the season. Brent Dlugach and Gilberto Mejia had 9th inning RBI's to give the L-Tigers the lead for good. Lakeland plays Vero Beach again on Friday night at 6:30pm.

A West Mich. Whitecaps - PPD: RAIN
21-11, 1st in Eastern division

After a sixteen inning saga, the 'Caps get a day off due heavy rains. The game will not be made up because the two teams don't face each other again this half of the season. The 'Caps will face the Lugnuts the 12th in Lansing, starting an eight game road trip.
