Mother Nature Attacks Again (5/12 Recaps)

Mother Nature apparently wasn't in the mood to let the first place Whitecaps run away with the division, so instead she's kept the 'Caps off the field for two straight days. Meanwhile, Erie picked up a victory in a pitcher's duel, and Lance Davis got his first win with Lakeland.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - RICHMOND 3, TOLEDO 0
17-17, 2nd in West division
Despite a strong pitching performance from starter Colby Lewis, the Toledo Mud Hens were unable to get anything going at the plate, losing 3-0 to the Richmond Braves Friday evening. Lewis (1-3), who is now 0-3 when starting on the road, went six innings, striking out five, walking two and giving up three earned runs. Prior to Friday's start, Lewis had allowed just five earned runs over 21 innings pitched. Hector Mercado came on in the in the seventh to finish up the game, keeping the Braves off the scoreboard giving up just one hit and striking out a pair along the way. The Mud Hens (17-17) were held to just four hits in the game thanks to a particular strong outing by Richmond starter Ken Barry (2-2) who struck out nine batters and surrendered just three Toledo hits. Ryan Raburn and Ryan Ludwick did manage to reach base picking up a hit each along with Alexis Gomez who went two-for-four with a pair of singles. The Mud Hens, who fall two games back of division-leading Indianapolis, will play game two of their series with Braves (14-21) Saturday beginning at 7:00 p.m. sending Jordan Tata to the mound to face Brian O'Connor.

AA Erie SeaWolves - ERIE 1, READING 0
13-21, 6th in Southern division
Erie won a pitcher's duel Friday night, beating Reading 1-0. Starter Preston Larrison held the Phillies scoreless through eight innings, allowing only five hits and no walks. Closer Chris Homer threw a scoreless ninth to pick up his seventh save of the season. The game was tied in the ninth when catcher Mike Rabelo hit a home run with one out and nobody on base, his third of the year. Rabelo's homer was only Erie's third hit of the entire game. The series continues Saturday night in Reading, at 7:05pm.

HiA Lakeland Tigers - LAKELAND 5, VERO BCH. 2
19-16, t-2nd in West division
Lakeland wins it's third game in a row, 5-2 Friday night at Vero Beach. Lance Davis pitched 6 2/3 innings allowing only 1 run and picking up his first win of the season. Freddy Dolsi threw a scoreless ninth to get his first save of the year. Chris Robinson doubled in the third, driving in Brent Dlugach to get Lakeland on the board. In the fifth, Robinson picked up another RBI, driving in Victor Mendez on a sac fly. Clete Thomas finished the L-Tigers scoring when he singled in Dlugach with 2 outs. Lakeland closes the series with Vero Beach Saturday night at 7:00pm.

A West Mich. Whitecaps - PPD: RAIN
21-11, 1st in Eastern division

The Whitecaps game was rained out for the second evening in a row. The game between the 'Caps and the Lansing Lugnuts will be made up as part of a double-header Saturday the 13th.
