Rain Makes Its Presence Known (5/15 Recaps)

The giant low pressure system that has wreaked havoc across the nation has made it very difficult to play baseball, as once again the Tigers' organization lost two games to the rain. On the plus side, both Toledo and Lakeland were able to get their games in and walked away with victories; including strong starts from Zach Miner and Andrew Kown, and a monster day at the plate from Ryan Ludwick.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - TOLEDO 7, RICHMOND 2
18-19, 2nd in West division
Ryan Ludwick had five RBI's including a grand slam to guide the Toledo Mud Hens to a 7-2 victory over the Richmond Braves Monday night ending their three game losing streak. Max St. Pierre, Josh Phelps each picked up an RBI, while Ludwick, Kevin Hooper and Don Kelly each picked up a pair of hits, including Kelly who knocked a triple. After two scoreless innings, Ludwick's grand slam put the Toledo ahead 4-0 in the third. Josh Phelps then led off the ‘Hens side of the sixth with a walk, eventually making it to second base on Jack Hannahan's single to center, before coming homing home on St. Pierre's single to right field to make it 5-0. Toledo picked up two more runs in the seventh on Ludwick's one out double to score Ryan Raburn. Phelps later singled to center field to bring home Ludwick. The Braves (16-22) picked up their only two runs in the last of the sixth to end Toledo starter Zach Miner's (6-0) bid for a shutout. Miner, struck out four, walked a pair and scattered seven hits, picking up his sixth straight victory despite leaving the game due to a knee injury, while assisting on a back up play at third base. Reliever Chris Spurling came on to replace Miner in the seventh to pick up the save and seal the win for Toledo. The Mud Hens will begin a four game series in Norfolk Tuesday night sending right-hander Chad Durbin to the mound. The Tide, have not announced a starter for the game, that gets underway at 7:15 p.m. in Norfolk.

AA Erie SeaWolves - PPD: RAIN
14-22, 6th in Southern division
Erie's game with Akron was postponed due to heavy rain on Monday night that has plagued much of the upper midwest. No make up date has been announced yet, but both of Monday's slated starters (Nick Pesko for Akron, Humberto Sanchez for Erie) will take the mound Tuesday at 11:05am.

HiA Lakeland Tigers - LAKELAND 8, BREVARD CTY. 3
20-17, 3rd in West division
Lakeland wins the first game of the series against Brevard County 8-3. Andrew Kown picked up his first win of the season after going 6 innings, allowing only one run and striking out three. Garth McKinney got the L-Tigers on the board in the second with a leadoff home run, his first. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Brent Dlugach doubled, knocking in all three base runners. In the sixth Chris Robinson doubled in two runs, Robinson had 3 RBI for the game. In the eigtth Victor Mendez scored on a wild pitch to finish the scoring for the L-Tigers. Lakeland plays Tuesday night at home against Brevard County at 7:00pm.

A West Mich. Whitecaps - LANSING 3, W. MICH 1
22-13, 2nd in Eastern division

The 'Caps game against the Lugnuts was rained out yet again. The game will not be made up, since the two teams don't face each other again until after the break. The 'Caps now head to Peoria to face the Cheifs on the 16th at 7:30.
