Rain the Story of the Day (6/25 Recaps)

It may have been a beautiful Sunday afternoon for baseball, but that weather didn't follow the Tiger farm clubs all across the country, as three teams had their games rained out. Of those who didn't though, both Toledo and West Michigan picked up wins, with Toledo's offense exploding for 14 runs.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - TOLEDO 14, SYRACUSE 6
39-36, 3rd in West division
The Toledo Mud Hens handed the Syracuse Sky Chiefs a convincing 14-6 defeat on Sunday. The Mud Hens built up a 10-2 lead after just four innings, and in never look back fashion, went on to take the fourth and final game of the series. Ryan Ludwick, Mike Hessman and Josh Phelps each drove in three runs, including Hessman who belted a solo homer, his 16th of the season. Ryan Raburn and David Espinosa also homered to guide the Mud Hens out of a three game losing streak. Toledo starter Jordan Tata picked up his fourth victory of the season after going six full innings, striking out two and walking just one, allowing four runs. The Mud Hens return home Monday night to begin a three game series against the Norfolk Tide.

AA Erie SeaWolves - PPD: RAIN
32-41, t-4th in Southern division
Erie's game with Bowie on Sunday was postponed due to rain. It'll be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday, starting at 5:35pm.

HiA Lakeland Tigers - PPD: RAIN
2-1 t-2nd in West division
Lakeland's game with Sarasota was postponed due to rain - it'll be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday, with the first game slated to start at 5:00pm.

A West Mich. Whitecaps - W. MICH. 7, BURLINGTON 3
4-0, 1st in Eastern division

The Whitecaps completed a four game sweep of the Bees Sunday afternoon, winning 7-3. 'Caps starter Sendy Vasquez got the win, his fourth, pitching six and two-thirds innings allowing only three unearned runs on five hits. Anthony Claggett pitched an inning and a third of scoreless relief, striking out two, and Orlando Perdomo pitched a scoreless ninth in a non-save situation. Dusty Ryan anchored the 'Caps offense, slamming a two-run homer to put the 'Caps ahead and finished 2-for-3. Justin Justice went deep in the next at-bat, hitting his second bomb of the year. Will Rhymes was 1-for-2 with three walks and two stolen bases out of the lead-off spot. Matt Joyce drove in two on two singles, taking his RBI total to 48 on the year. The 'Caps face the South Bend Silver Hawks the 26th to start a seven game home stand.

SS-A Oneonta Tigers - PPD: RAIN
4-1, 1st in Stedler division

Oneonta saw their game with Lowell rained out on Sunday. They'll make it up as part of a doubleheader on August 21st. On Monday, Oneonta kicks off a three game series in Vermont, starting at 7:00pm.

R GCL Tigers - GCL Phillies 6, GCL Tigers 2
2-3, t-3rd in North division

The GCL Tigers fell to the GCL Phillies on Sunday 6-2. Santo Franco took the loss, as he gave up four runs on four hits in 3 2/3 innings. Jesse Caraballo came on in relief, giving up another pair of runs, though just one earned. Luis Arlet ripped a pair of hits, driving in one run and scoring the other. Chris Carlson also chipped in with a pair of hits. The GCL Tigers will host the GCL Braves on Monday at noon.
