Can't Buy a Win (8/13 Recaps)

The West Michigan Whitecaps have been excellent all season long, so them winning comes as little surprise. But in following suit with the big league club's mid-to-late season swoon, everyone in the organization seems to be following suit, as the 'Caps, led by Sendy Vasquez, were the only club to get a win on Sunday.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - RICHMOND 6, TOLEDO 1
63-59, 3rd in West division
Richmond coasted to a 6-1 decision over visiting Toledo on Sunday night. Josh Phelps provided the only scoring for the Mud hens after hitting his second home run in as many games. Phelps, who went 3-for-4 in the game, hit his 22nd home run of the season to give Toledo their only tally. Jordan Tata picked up the loss after going 5-1/3 innings. Tata surrendered three runs on four hits, striking out two and a walking a pair. The two teams will conclude their series on Monday night.

AA Erie SeaWolves - CONNECTICUT 5, ERIE 1
50-69, 6th in Southern division
The SeaWolves fell on Sunday as they once again struggled to mount a strong offensive attack. Eulogio de la Cruz took the loss but didn't pitch poorly - he gave up four runs (three earned) over six innings. Unfortunately, the SeaWolves' offense just couldn't fight back, as the club's lone run came off the bat of Kurt Airoso, when he blasted a solo home run, his 14th on the season. Erie has the day off on Monday, before hosting New Britain for a four game series at home.

HiA Lakeland Tigers - OFF DAY
22-28, 6th in West division
Lakeland had the day off on Sunday, but the L-Tigers begin a four game set with Palm Beach on Monday, with first pitch set for 7:00pm.

A West Mich. Whitecaps - W. MICH. 3, QUAD CTS. 1
36-14, 1st in Eastern division

Sendy Vasquez turned in an impressive outing as the Whitecaps picked up another victory over Quad Cities on Sunday. Vasquez, who picked up his 10th win of the year, gave up just one unearned run over eight innings, at which point he turned the ball over to Orlando Perdomo, who pitched a perfect ninth for his 28th save. Four 'Caps had multi-hit games, including Cameron Maybin, who blasted a solo home run, his 7th of the year. Mike Hollimon scored a run in addition to his two hits, and Jeramy Laster had an RBI. West Michigan travels to Kane County to start a four game series on Monday at 7:00pm.

SS-A Oneonta Tigers - AUBURN 3, ONEONTA 2
28-24, 2nd in Stedler division

Oneonta and Auburn battled and needed extra innings to settle the score, but in the end Auburn came out on top with a 3-2 victory. Zach Piccola pitched well but got a no decision, giving up two runs on seven hits through 5 2/3 innings. Lauren Gagnier pitched three excellent innings of relief, but it was the fourth that would bite him, as he gave up the go-ahead run in the 10th inning, a solo home run. Brennan Boesch had a hit and an RBI for the club, while Ronnie Bourquin and Scott Sizemore were the two players that crossed the plate for the club. Oneonta hosts Auburn again at 7:00pm on Monday.

R GCL Tigers - OFF DAY
28-16, 1st in North division

The GCL Tigers had Sunday off, getting some rest before traveling to take on the GCL Phillies on Monday at noon.
