Rain Washes Away Sunday (8/27 Recaps)

On Sunday, the Tiger farm clubs had to combat Mother Nature, and two games were cancelled because of the rain that blanketed much of the nation. Meanwhile, in the games that actually were played, things didn't go so well, as they didn't get a single win. Kyle Sleeth's struggles in Lakeland continued.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens - L'VILLE 9, TOLEDO 2
73-62, t-1st in West division
Toledo once again were at the hands of a shellacking by the Louisville Bats who defeated the Mud Hens 9-2 on Sunday. Mud Hens starter Corey Hamman (2-8) took the loss after giving up six runs – four earned- on six hits striking out six. Ryan Ludwick got the ‘Hens on the board in the third with an RBI single an later Max St. Pierre drove home another tally in the seventh which proved to be Toledo's only scoring plays of the night. The Mud Hens, who remained tied for first place in the IL West, hit the road to begin a brief tow game set in Durham Monday night.

AA Erie SeaWolves – CCLD: RAIN
58-75, 6th in Southern division
Erie's game was called off due to rain, and because the game likely won't have any effect on the playoff picture in the Eastern League, the game will not be made up. Erie hosts Trenton for a four game series starting on Monday at 7:05pm.

HiA Lakeland Tigers – FT. MYERS 6, LAKELAND 2
28-34, 5th in West division
Fort Myers finished off Lakeland on Sunday, beating the L-Tigers 6-2 on Sunday. Jeremy Johnson took the loss as the starter, giving up four runs over five innings for his 5th loss of the season. Kyle Sleeth came on in relief but struggled once again, giving up a pair of runs in just 2/3 of an inning. James Essian went 3-for-4, including a solo home run, but the rest of the team managed just two hits. On Monday, Lakeland hosts Dunedin to kick off a two game series.

A West Mich. Whitecaps – FT. WAYNE 4, W. MICH. 2
41-21, 1st in Eastern division

It wasn't a great game for the Whitecaps, as they fell to Fort Wayne 4-2. Luke French took the loss, giving up three runs over three innings before leaving the game. The bullpen gave up just one run over the final six innings, but the damage had already been done and the ‘Caps offense couldn't come back. Will Rhymes had a pair of hits for West Michigan, while Pedro Cotto drove in a pair of runs. West Michigan now hosts a four game series with Lansing starting on Monday at 7:00pm.

SS-A Oneonta Tigers – CCLD: RAIN
35-29, 2nd in Stedler division

Oneonta's series finale with Lowell was rained out. They travel to Tri-City on Monday for a game at 7:00pm.

The GCL Tigers closed the season as North division champs, but fell in the playoffs to the GCL Dodgers.
