Espinosa Leads 'Hens to Finals (9/9 Recaps)

Toledo wasn't the favorite to take home the Governor's Cup when the playoffs started, but they're a step closer today, as they advance to the Governor's Cup Finals with the help of David Espinosa's three run homer. West Michigan also picked up a win in the first game of their semifinal, as they look to lock up a spot in the finals on Sunday.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens – TOLEDO 5, CHARLOTTE 2
Toledo wins series 3-1
David Espinosa's three run homer in the 10th inning helped guide the Toledo Mud Hens to a 5-2 win over Charlotte, advancing them to the Governors Cup Championship final. John Ennis picks up the win a relief roll, striking out one, walking two during 1-1/3 innings of work. Jack Hannahan and Mike Hessman each picked an RBI, with Josh Phelps chipping in for a double. The Mud Hens will move on to play Rochester in the International League finals beginning on Tuesday.

A West Mich. Whitecaps – W. MICH. 9, LANSING 3
1-0 West Michigan, Best of Three

The 'Caps picked up a win in the series opener, topping Lansing 9-3. Erik Averill shut down the Lugnuts, giving up one unearned run over 5 2/3 innings, getting his first win of the postseason. The offense gave him plenty of breathing room as well, as the 'Caps jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, then picked up six more in the later stages of the game. Mike Hollimon and Joel Roa each had home runs for West Michigan, with Cameron Maybin adding two hits, two runs and two runs driven in. The 'Caps will return home on Sunday where they'll try and finish off Lansing at 4:00pm.

Oneonta came up just a few games short of making the playoffs in the Stedler division.
