Larish Leads Way for 'Wolves (4/22 Recaps)

Jeff Larish had a monster game on Sunday, driving in six runs in helping lead Erie to victory. Meanwhile, Chris Cody had another dominating start for West Michigan as he continues to cruise in the early part of the season.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens – TOLEDO 7, DURHAM 4 (F-16)
9-8, 2nd in West division
It took nearly five hours, but a Ramon Santiago single in the top of the 16th inning scored the go ahead run for the Mud Hens in a 7-4 extra innings battle against Durham Sunday. Santiago's blooper to left field scored Chris Shelton to begin a three-run 16th, and on the next play Mike Hessman scored off of a Andrew Graham sacrifice bunt. Later in the inning, Santiago was batted in courtesy of Kevin Hooper single. Hessman also scored on a solo home run (5) in the top of the 12th inning, to keep the Mud Hens chances alive. Hessman, who finished 4-for-7 with three runs and two RBI also, had a home run in the inning, making it three home runs in two games for the infielder. Timo Perez also recorded a home run (3), and Santiago finished 3-for-7 with one run and one RBI. Shelton and Hooper also recorded two hits. Right-hander Ron Chiavacci (4.50 E.R.A.) held the Bulls at bay only allowing two runs off of five hits in six innings of work, while fanning 10 batters. But it was lefty Ian Ostlund (1-0, 0.00 E.R.A.) who earned the win after allowing no runs and recording three strikeouts in two innings pitched. Dennis Tankersley (2-1, 4.02 E.R.A.) will get the start for the Mud Hens at 7:15 p.m. Monday against Charlotte.

AA Erie SeaWolves – ERIE 11, BOWIE 6
7-6, t-3rd in Southern division
Jeff Larish powered the SeaWolves to their third consecutive victory, beating the Bowie Baysox 11-6. Larish was 3-for-5 with six RBI's and a run scored. He was missing only a triple for the cycle, hitting a three run home run in the first and a bases clearing double off of the top of the wall in the second. Mike Hollimon also contributed two RBI's going 1-for-3 with two runs scored. The SeaWolves also had three other players who had two hits. Pedro Cotto was 2-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored, Andres Torres was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and Brent Dlugach was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI triple in the second. Starting pitcher Eulogio De La Cruz earned the victory to move to 2-1 on the season. He pitched six innings allowing seven hits and four earned runs while walking three and striking out two. Relief pitcher Andrew Kown pitched the final three innings, striking out five on route to his first save of the season. Kown allowed one hit and one earned run in his three innings of work. The SeaWolves will return to action on Monday April 23 at 6:35 p.m. The scheduled pitching matchup is RHP Eddie Bonine (0-1 3.27 ERA) for Erie and LHP Scott Lewis (0-0 1.86 ERA) for Akron.

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers –OFF DAY
7-9, t-4th in West division
The Flying Tigers had Sunday off but will return to action on Monday night at 7:00 PM at Sarasota. Starting pitchers have yet to be announced.

A West Mich. Whitecaps –W. MICH. 8, WISCONSIN 2
8-7, 3rd in Eastern division

A five-run eighth inning sealed an 8-2 victory for West Michigan Saturday versus Wisconsin at Fifth Third Ballpark. Louis Ott and Ryan Strieby each had three hits and an RBI. Jeramy Laster had two RBIs including a solo home run to lead off the fifth. Christopher Cody had another strong outing with seven strike outs and one earned run in seven innings. He now has two wins and a 0.34 ERA on the season. The teams will play again Monday at 6:35 p.m.
