'Wolves Pick Up Lone Win (4/28 Recaps)

The SeaWolves picked up the lone victory among the farm teams on Saturday, getting help from Eddie Bonine on the mound and Brent Dlugach and Jackson Melian at the plate. Meanwhile, Toledo and West Michigan got solid pitching, but not the offense to back it up.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens – ROCHESTER 3, TOLEDO 1
11-11, 3rd in West division
Brent Clevlen had a triple and a run in a 3-1 loss against Rochester Saturday night at Fifth Third Field. Jack Hannahan, Chris Shelton and Dane Sardinha recorded the only other hits for the Mud Hens- Hannahan also had an RBI. Ron Chiavacci (1-1, 4.44 E.R.A.) was credited with the loss after allowing three earned runs on seven hits in six and 1/3 innings. Chiavacci also fanned five batters. Dennis Tankersley (3-1, 3.18 E.R.A) will get the start for the Mud Hens in game three of the four game series at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fifth Third Field.

AA Erie SeaWolves – ERIE 6, BOWIE 2
10-9, 2nd in Southern division
The SeaWolves were able to bounce back from Friday night's loss with a 6-2 victory on Saturday over the Bowie Baysox. The SeaWolves received a solid pitching performance from Eddie Bonine (2-1, 2.66 ERA). He pitched seven innings allowing only five hits and one run. Andrew Kown allowed one run in his one inning of work and Danny Zell retired the side in the ninth. The SeaWolves offense was led by Jackson Melian and Brent Dlugach. Melian was 2-for-4 with a two run home run in the fourth and Dlugach was 2-for-4 with a three run home run in the eighth. The SeaWolves and Baysox will meet again Sunday at 2:05 p.m. LHP Jon Connolly (0-2, 7.90 ERA) gets the start for Erie and LHP Craig Waters (0-2, 6.38 ERA) will start for Bowie.

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – CLEARWATER 7, LAKELAND 1
9-13, t-5th in West division
The Flying Tigers were swept by the Clearwater Threshers on Saturday night. Starting pitcher Burke Badenhop pitched seven innings and surrendered five runs while striking out five. Ricky Steik pitched the final two innings of the game, giving up two runs and striking out one. Offensively, Lakeland did not fare much better. Ryan Roberson scored the lone run of the night, blasting a solo shot to left-center. Lakeland will start a new series at home against Sarasota Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM. Luke French will most likely make the start for Lakeland, while Ramon Ramirez will get the nod for Sarasota.

A West Mich. Whitecaps – PEORIA 4, W. MICH. 2
10-10, 3rd in Eastern division

The Whitecaps dropped another game in Peoria Saturday 4-2. Jonah Nickerson got the loss giving up three earned runs on five hits, including a home run, while striking out nine in seven innings. West Michigan produced their only runs in the second on a Michael Bertram force out and a Brandon Timm single that scored Bertram. The 'Caps will try to split the series Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
