A West Mich. Whitecaps – W. MICH. 5, GREAT LAKES 4
20-16, 2nd in Eastern division

A three-run home run off the bat of Gorkys Hernandez was the difference Monday as West Michigan held on to beat Great Lakes 5-4. Louis Ott gave the Whitecaps an early lead by hitting a solo home run in the first, but it was quickly surrendered in the bottom of the inning when the first two Loons batters hit their way on base and eventually scored to make it 2-1. The Whitecaps came right back to tie it in the second on an RBI single by Brandon Timm. The score remained tied until Hernandez's blast in the fifth, making it 5-1. The Loons tacked on single runs in the fifth and eighth, but Brett Jensen shut them out in the ninth to pick up his seventh save. Lauren Gagnier (2-4, 5.57 ERA) allowed seven hits, three runs (two earned), and three walks with two strike outs over six innings but got the win. Angel Castro is scheduled to face Josh Wall of Great Lakes in the final game of the series Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
