'Hens Pick Up Big Win (6/6 Recaps

Toledo saw their lead cut to just 3-2 heading into the eighth inning, but a six run inning, led by Ryan Raburn and Mike Hessman, solidified the lead and the victory. Meanwhile, Erie's defense had a letdown game, while both Lakeland and West Michigan were idle.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens –TOLEDO 9, SYRACUSE 2
33-27, 2nd in West division
Righty Dennis Tankersley pitched brilliantly to lead the Mud Hens over Syracuse, for his sixth win of the season. Tankersley allowed only two hits and one walk but no runs in 84 pitches across six innings. It was the 'Hens second straight victory over the Chiefs who previously touted a nine game winning streak. The 'Hens took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two RBI double by David Espinosa and never looked back. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Dane Sardinha dropped one just beyond the left field pole and extended the lead to 3-0. The Chiefs got on the board in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to 3-2 but Vic Darensbourg closed out the inning with two runners on the pond, with a swinging strikeout. Both runs were charged to Preston Larrison, however, who relieved Tankersley in the sixth inning. The late game surge did not stop the Mud Hens offense in the bottom of the eighth. Ryan Raburn responded by clunking a deep home run off of the left field scoreboard increasing the lead to 4-2. The next 'Hens batter, Chris Shelton, singled and was then driven home by an even deeper home run by third basemen Mike Hessman stretching the 'Hens lead to 6-2. The lead was extended further in the eighth win Sardinha connected on an RBI single followed by a Ramon Santiago RBI single. Chris Maples then hit a deep double to left center field which was nearly ruled a home run to make the score 9-2. Right handed pitcher Yorman Bazardo (4-3, 3.77 E.R.A), is scheduled to start for the Mud Hens opposite Syracuse hurler Michael MacDonald for a 7 p.m. Thursday game at Fifth Third Field.
