Perfect Day on the Farm (7/29 Recaps)

It might not have been a great day for the big league club, but things went about as well as they could have down on the farm, as all four teams in action picked up victories. That includes both Oneonta and Toledo squeaking by with one run victories, and Brennan Boesch taking the MWL RBI lead.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens – TOLEDO 2, RICHMOND 1
62-47, 1st in West division
Dane Sardinha and Chris Shelton hit solo home runs and Virgil Vasquez allowed one earned run in six innings to lead the Mud Hens to a 2-1 win over Richmond Sunday. Vasquez struck out three batters en route to his tenth win of the season. Fernando Rodney struck out one batter in one inning and recorded a hold, and Eulugio De La Cruz struck out two batters in one inning to record a hold as well. Aquilino Lopez earned his seventeenth save of the season. Shelton finished 2-for-3 and Henry Mateo recorded a double in front of the sellout crowd of 10,300 at Fifth Third Field. Jordan Tata will get the start for Monday's 7 p.m. game versus Richmond.

AA Erie SeaWolves – ERIE 7, HARRISBURG 4
61-45, 1st in Southern division
The SeaWolves scored four times in the sixth inning to propel them to 7-4 victory and series sweep of the Harrisburg Senators. The 'Wolves used a balanced attack with four separate players having a multi hit game. Pedro Cotto led the way going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Steve Torrealba was one of three players who had two hits in the game going 2-for-2 with a walk and he scored one run. Matt Joyce and Will Rhymes both had two hits in the game and Rhymes scored a run and had a RBI. Matt Righter improved his record to 3-3, allowing five hits and two earned runs in two innings. Alan Mills earned his 14th save of the season allowing a hit and a walk in the ninth inning. Mills struck out two in his inning of work. The 'Wolves will be off on Monday and will return to action Tuesday against the New Britain Rock Cats.

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – OFF DAY
14-20, 6th in West division
The Flying Tigers had the night off but will return to action Monday night at home against the Clearwater Threshers. The completion of a suspended game from earlier in the season will start at 6:00 PM and will be followed by an additional game. Starting pitchers have yet to be announced.

A West Mich. Whitecaps – W. MICH. 6, CEDAR RPDS. 2
23-12, 1st in Eastern division

Jordon Newton belted two home runs Sunday en route to a 6-2 Whitecaps victory over Cedar Rapids. Newton went yard to lead off the fourth and sixth innings, hitting his first two home runs with West Michigan. Audy Ciriaco had an RBI double in the sixth, while Brennan Boesch got his 71st RBI on a ground out in the first, tying him for the Midwest League lead. Duane Below struck out eight over five innings for the win, allowing one earned run on four hits and three walks. West Michigan returns home Monday to begin a four game series against Peoria at 7:00 p.m.

SS-A Oneonta Tigers – ONEONTA 7, ABERDEEN 6
23-16, 2nd in Stedler division

The Oneonta Tigers came out with a victory in an error filled game Sunday with the Aberdeen Ironbirds. The Tigers jumped in front thanks to a six run second inning, highlighted by two run single by Jorge Patino. The Ironbirds chipped away by adding three runs in the third and fifth innings before the Tigers scored the go ahead run in the seventh inning off of a throwing error by third basemen Franklin Gonzalez. Jacob Ramos (1-0, 0.00) picked up the win while Noah Krol (0-0, 1.56) nailed down his eighth save of the season. Patino led the Tiger offense with three hits and two RBI, with Casper Wells chipping in two hits and one RBI as well. The Tigers travel to Stanton Island tonight at 7:10 p.m. to being a three game set with the Yankees.

R GCL Tigers – OFF DAY
17-17, 4th in North division

The GCL Tigers had Sunday off but return to action Monday to face the Indians once again at noon.
