Bats Power Way into the W Column (8/7 Recaps)

After a night in which the farm clubs struggled to get wins, the power bats came to play on Tuesday, with Brent Clevlen leading the charge for Toledo, Jeff Larish for Erie, and Brennan Boesch for the Whitecaps.

AAA Toledo Mud Hens – TOLEDO 6, NORFOLK 1
67-50, 1st in West division
Anastacio Martinez refused to let the tide come in on a rainy day in Toledo. The starter allowed just two hits and no earned runs across six innings of work to earn his fifth win as a 'Hen. Timo Perez led the offense with a home run. He had three hits and two RBI. Marcus Thames added an RBI in his first game of his rehab assignment with Toledo. Brent Clevlen had two hits and two RBI for the 'Hens who host Norfolk again on Wednesday. Yorman Bazardo is scheduled to start for the first place 'Hens.

AA Erie SeaWolves – ERIE 6, NEW BRITAIN 3
65-48, 2nd in Southern division
Two runs in the first inning set the pace and the SeaWolves never looked back as they beat New Britain 6-3. Starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens continued his recent success pitching seven strong innings earning his seventh win of the season. Jurrjens allowed only five hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out four. Jeff Larish added a solo home run in the fourth and was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. Matt Joyce also had two RBI going 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Mike Hollimon hit a double as well and was 2-for-4. The Wolves' will be back in action Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. against the New Britain Rock Cats. Eddie Bonine (12-5, 3.44 ERA) will take the mound for Erie against Ryan Mullins (1-2, 3.51 ERA).

A+ Lakeland Flying Tigers – ST. LUCIE 3, LAKELAND 2
17-25, 6th in West division
Carrying a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the ninth, Lakeland reliever Freddy Dolsi gave up two runs, ultimately resulting in a Flying Tigers loss, 3-2. Starting pitcher Burke Badenhop pitched 7 and 1/3 innings, surrendering one run (although it wasn't earned). On the offensive side, both of Lakeland's run resulted from solo home runs. Ryan Roberson batted 1-for-2, hitting his fifteenth home run of the season. Cameron Maybin also hit his tenth home run of the season, batting 1-for-4 on the night. The two teams will meet again Wednesday night at 7:05 PM. Starting pitchers have yet to be announced.

A West Mich. Whitecaps – W. MICH. 5, CLINTON 2
28-16, 1st in Eastern division

West Michigan started off their road trip with a 5-2 victory over Clinton Tuesday. Brennan Boesch belted a two-run home run in the third to start the scoring. Clinton came back to tie it in the fourth on an RBI ground out and RBI single off of starter Charles Furbush. A Scott Sizemore sacrifice fly in the seventh broke the tie. The Whitecaps added two more in the ninth on a triple from Audy Ciriaco, who scored on a passed ball, and a Ryan Strieby sacrifice fly. Casey Fien (5-0, 3.46 ERA) picked up the win, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings on three hits with two strike outs. Brett Jensen struck out the side in the ninth for his 21st save. The series continues Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.

Oneonta's game against Auburn was postponed yesterday. The two teams look to take the field Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.

The Tigers and Yankees game was suspended on Tuesday afternoon due to rain. It'll be made up as part of a doubleheader starting at 11:00am on Wednesday.
