A West Mich. Whitecaps – W. MICH. 3, BELOIT 2
West Michigan up 2-0, Best of Five Series

The Whitecaps are one win away from claiming their second consecutive Midwest League Championship after defeating Beloit Wednesday 3-2. Duane Below one-hit the Snappers over seven innings, striking out ten. The one hit was a home run from Garrett Olson after Gregory Yersich walked in the second inning to give Beloit an early lead. West Michigan came back with one in the bottom of the inning when Brennan Boesch led off with a double and later scored on a Santo De Leon fielder's choice ground ball. Then in the bottom of the fifth with two outs and nobody on, Scott Sizemore singled, followed by a Jeramy Laster triple to tie the score. A botched pick-off attempt from Beloit catcher Gregory Yersich allowed Laster to score, putting the Whitecaps ahead. It was all the offense the West Michigan pitching needed, as Below retired the last 15 batters that he faced. Casey Fien took over in the eighth, giving up only one hit over two innings while striking out three for his third save of the playoffs. The 'Caps will look to complete a perfect post-season Thursday at 7:30 p.m. EDT, with Matt O'Brien facing Beloit's Cole Devries.
