REPORT: Tigers to Acquire Jones

According to the Detroit Free Press, the Tigers are close to completing a trade with the Chicago Cubs for outfielder Jacque Jones in exchange for utility infielder Omar Infante.

While nothing has been announced or is final yet, it is expected the Tigers will acquire the 32-year old outfielder from the Cubs.

In 2007, Jacque Jones hit .285 for the Cubs. However, Jones wasn't in the teams plans for '08, and was being actively shopped.

Omar Infante likewise didn't appear to be in the Tigers' 08 plans with the emergence of Ryan Raburn this past summer in addition to already having Ramon Santiago entrenched as the team's best defensive replacement around the infield.

Raburn, the Tigers Rookie of the Year, hit .304 in 138 at bats last season.

Jones, who is scheduled to make $5 million in salary in 2008, will likely compete for playing time in left field with Raburn and Marcus Thames. Jones also adds a much-needed left-handed bat to a righty-dominated lineup.
