Porcello, 11 Others Sent to Minor League Camp

Everyone knew that when Rick Porcello arrived in big league camp, he wouldn't be staying, and it would just be an opportunity for him to show off his impressive arm. On Tuesday, Porcello, along with 11 others, were officially sent to minor league camp.

Rick Porcello was the one top prospect talked about this spring - displaying a power arm, impressive control, and all that having never made a pro appearance on the mound.

Porcello will begin his Tigers career at high-A Lakeland. There was debate as to whether or not he would start with Lakeland or one level lower at West Michigan, however due to concerns about the weather, as well as the polish Porcello showed when facing big league hitters left the organization confident Porcello could handle that level of competition.

Among the others sent to minor league camp, pitchers Macay McBride and Armando Galarraga were sent to Triple-A Toledo.

Meanwhile pitcher Jeff Gerbe and catchers Joe Bowen and Dusty Ryan were sent to Double-A Erie.

The rest of the players assigned to general minor league camp (but not a team) are catcher James Skelton; outfielders Matt Joyce, Clete Thomas and Wilkin Ramirez; shortstop Danny Worth and first baseman Jeff Larish.
