Dontrelle to the 'Pen

As first reported by WDFN 1130, Dontrelle Willis will return to the Detroit Tigers in the next day or two. But, in an interesting twist, Willis will be joining the team's bullpen.

Dontrelle Willis, who went on the disabled list on April 13th after not recording an out in just his second start as a Tiger, had his ups and downs in three rehab starts with Triple- A Toledo.

In those three starts, Willis went 1-1 with a 4.41 ERA. Willis also had 11 strikeouts and seven walks in 16 1/3 innings. In his latest start, Willis gave up one run in six innings of work, but walked four while continuing to struggle with his control.

Since going on the disabled list, Willis was replaced by Armando Galarraga, who has been the Tigers' most consistent start over the past month. With the Tigers unwilling to move him out of the rotation, and no other obvious move to open up a spot, Willis will reportedly end up returning to the Tigers, at least initially, as a member of the Tigers' bullpen.

To make room for Willis, Clay Rapada was placed on the disabled list with tendonitis. Rapada had given up just one run in 12 appearances before allowing four in just 1/3 of an inning against Seattle on Tuesday.
