Ivan Rodriguez was a key piece to the Tigers' rebuilding effort when he was signed in 2004. But with Rodriguez aging and free agency approaching at the end of the season, the Tigers decided Rodriguez wasn't going to be a part of the team's future past 2008.
Details of the deal are not final, but ESPN has reported that the Tigers will receive Kyle Farnsworth in return.
Rodriguez was hitting .295 for the Tigers, with five home runs and 32 RBI. Farnsworth has appeared in 45 games this season for the Yankees, posting a 3.65 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings of work.
